MSV Fennica and Nordica are two Finnish landmark multipurpose ice breakers which are specialized in working in the Arctic waters. In the summer, these vessels ensure safe operations in the offshore oil- and gas fields in various parts of the world.
In January 2014, four Frictape Service Technicians installed both Frictape Perimeter Nets and Landing Nets to both vessels. The installation of the Frictape netting was completed in total of five working days in icy cold conditions in Helsinki and Inkoo, Finland.
That was the coldest weather in which we have ever installed our nets! Frictape products are built to last even in the most extreme conditions so people working for Frictape need to be as tough.

Despite harsh conditions, Master of Fennica Ms. Hanna Kujala describes the installation work smooth and efficient. She also appreciated that Frictape Service Team had their own PPE and fall protection gear with them when working on helidecks.
In addition to hassle-free installation, Ms. Kujala explains that the vessels’ staff chose Frictape products because of their easy maintenance and testing service available. Frictape Nets’ good quality, reliability, and acceptance by industry standards were important criteria for selecting Frictape products on multi-purpose ice breakers operating globally.

We visited Transocean Corcovado in January 2019 to carry out helideck friction testing. The deck was recently surfaced with new high friction coating and as it often happens with profiled aluminium helidecks, it did not meet the friction requirements when we tested it. In cooperation with the crew, our technician carrying out the friction testing and Frictape team at the office, we found ways to further treat the surface to meet the friction requirements.
